Building Confidence Is Easier Than You May Think
If we can point out JUST ONE THING that’s the biggest source of all our life’s problems, it very well could be the lack of self-confidence.
You’re miserable in your job but you still don’t want to leave it: Because you’re not confident that you’re going to find a better opportunity.
You have a crush on someone but you’re unlikely to express that feeling: Because you’re not confident if your proposal will get accepted or not.
You want to drop out of college, you want to change your career, you want to take a stand against someone… Think of any problem in your life, and then strip them off all your excuses and complaints. Usually, in all its honesty, you will find your lack of self-confidence to be a prominent reason behind these problems.
Why People Don’t Realize This?
It’s not easy to admit that you have a confidence problem. At a time when extroversion is pushed overtly in the mainstream as the “only way”, it’s not easy to be self-aware, let alone admit, that you lack confidence – that doing even the most essential of things and acting in your self-interest gets you anxious and fearful.
It has to do a lot with ego, as well as the fear of judgment.
“I don’t have confidence problem. I can do anything” “If they know why I can’t do that, they will laugh and make fun of me.”
The First Step In Building Confidence
The first step in solving a problem is admitting that the problem exists in the first place.
Meaning, you cannot build your confidence unless you first admit that you lack it.
Self-awareness is the key.
Get self-aware of your confidence. Be okay to embrace that you lack confidence— you aren’t alone. Ease yourself to this reality.
A simple way to become self-aware and to comfortably embrace this otherwise discomforting reality is to audit your life’s problems and understand their root cause. You will find most of them will zero on your lack of confidence. And when you understand this “reason”, you’re more likely to take the necessary steps to move forward.
How To Build ItW?
There’s an endless list of things you can do to build your confidence. Different things work better for different people. For some, just changing their diet can make the biggest difference. Others may even have to go for therapy.
But at the end of the day, the key to improving confidence is extremely simple: TAKE ACTION.
Yes, it’s quite vague. Moreover, it sounds too simple to be true.
But the reality is that unless you act and make proactive efforts, you will remain in the same trench.
You will never grow if you never change.
So, now that you’re aware that you lack confidence and that it needs to be fixed in order to get your life on track, take action.
Exercise, take up new activities, do what you’re afraid of the most, take that trip, talk to new people, change your job, take the risk of upsetting others, eat right, create a plan, take a cold shower every day – JUST DO SOMETHING no matter how uncomfortable and awkward it makes you feel.
This is the only way to really build your confidence. And it’s easier than it sounds.
In case, if you need some help and assistance, approach a therapist or life coach, which would make the whole process even easier.
